Debunking myths about the power of eLearning

Accessibility, flexibility, affordability, and future of the education sector, e-Learning had a breakthrough after the pandemic and its trump card is accessibility. eLearning Market size surpassed USD 200 billion in 2019 and is anticipated to grow at over 8% CAGR between 2020 and 2026.

The word eLearning was coined by Elliott Masie at his TechLearn Conference at Disney World in November 1999. Since then, this term has been referred to as learning using the web or any electronic medium. eLearning can reduce the required time for students to learn the material by 25%-60% compared to traditional learning methods.

The shift from a traditional setting to online has become very successful but with its triumph, there are certain myths attached. In this blog, we will debunk some common myths about the power of eLearning.

MYTH: eLearning moves too quickly to understand

Many learners surmise that the internet is fast-paced and so is the learning on the web. In traditional settings, trainer’s do not shift to the topic until everyone is clear. Debunking this myth, in eLearning learners decide their own pace for curriculum. By getting the freedom to learn at their speed, they reduce the risk of missing out on the important and complex concepts. In traditional settings, trainers decide the speed of training and set the base of the course, “but they say spoon-feeding, in the long run, teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon”. Compared to its counterpart, 70% of learners claim online instruction to be as good as or better than in a traditional classroom setting.

MYTH: eLearning is designed only for a certain type of learner:

eLearning is an online platform and designed for all types of learners. Some may feel that they are slow learners and others may think that they are hands-on learners. eLearning is designed according to your flexibility, learning style, and learning speed. With its unique features, all demographics and skill levels of the population can avail of eLearning resources. Each concept and course can be customized and redesigned for the specific learners, this ensures that no learners are left behind.

MYTH: eLearning is only for kids:

This is the most common notion among peers that eLearning is only for kids as it is visually appealing and has animations. According to research, 90% of corporations now use e-learning compared to just 4% in 1995, and e-learning takes 40% to 60% less employee time than traditional education. Not only kids or millennials but professionals and adults also prefer eLearning as the most suitable option to learn and enhance their skills. eLearning is vast and it has different formats content on eLearning differs according to the target audience.

MYTH: Creating eLearning content is complex:

Creating eLearning content is not everyone’s cup of tea it requires time, knowledge, creativity, and ideas. Trainers should have knowledge and ideas about the course they are creating, then the process of producing and designing the course is easy. There are many software’s that guide trainers and make it easier to use design programs with structural and different templates. Trainers can also personalize and modify their course.

eLearning is going to stay forever and it is the futuristic way of education. According to research, the Global eLearning Market Will Reach $325 Billion By 2025. Accessibility, low-cost training, higher convenience, and modern techniques are the reasons behind the rapid growth of eLearning. It provides under-developed and developing countries an opportunity to access world-class educational resources that would be unavailable in their own country. The adoption of eLearning has become popular as more organizations, educational institutions and corporates prefer modern techniques to learn and train.
